CELEBRATED 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BEGINNING ANTIFASCIST STRUGGLE IN SERBIA ON THE KAMENICKI VIS

On the Kamenicki Vis near Nis, with suitable ceremony was celebrated the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the struggle of the people in Serbia against the fascist invaders in World War II. In the presence of soldiers and family members of fallen soldiers, reserve military leaders, representatives of organizations and institutions, on the memorial, wreaths laid: Nis City Assembly delegation, led by President Prof. Dr. Mile Ilic; the President of City Municipality of Palilula, Prof. Dr. Igor Novakovic, and representatives of municipalities Pantelej and Medijana. On this significant anniversary, spoke Stavan Vasic, President of the City Board of SUBNOR in Nis. He pointed out that "our historic duty to defend our beautiful country, its dignity and traditions, legacy of our ancestors.

Kamenicki Vis since the beginning of July 1941 and all four years of war was a free territory in the southeast part of Serbia.” At this place, according to Vasic 9 July 1941 was formed the first part of the Ozren` partisan detachment and then with strengthening of anti-fascist struggle in this area formed and Svrljiski and Nisavski partisan detachment. "We are proud and respect our struggle for freedom and anti-fascist tradition and pledge to be part of our history does not redraw and not politicized”, said Prof. Dr. Igor Novakovic, President of City Municipality of Palilula.

Day of Uprising 7th July since 2000 was celebrated as a national holiday and its celebration is abolished next year, when was adopted Law on state and other public holidays. The recently launched an initiative to re-incorporate this date in the calendar of national holidays.
